Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I get to the cabins?

All four of my stilt houses are built on stilts IN the water and canALSO be reached on foot via a walkway, meaning they are accessible and habitable regardless of the water level.

All of my lake cottages are located in the so-called Romantika settlement in the reed belt between Rust and the lake. All of my lake cottages (though by no means all of the lake cottages in Rust) can be reached without getting your feet wet via a boardwalk, yet they are situated right on the water and each comes with aBOATthat is mooredDIRECTLYat your terrace.

What is the water level in the lake?

As of January 2025, the water level is exactly in line with the 60-year average. Everything can be used without restriction, just as before.

We have thus successfully put the drought of 2022 behind us.

The Cselly Mill in Oslip is a historic mill that underwent extensive renovation in 2022. It now features a bar and a tavern, and hosts choir and music performances by Croatian folk dance groups (known as “Tamburica”) nearly every week, as there are many Croatian villages in Burgenland. It also hosts a variety of other events, such as concerts and cabaret shows.

Is there a minimum length of stay?

The minimum stay is usually 4 nights, but there are also shorter stays available. It’s best to call or email us to inquire, even though each lakeside cabin comes with an availability calendar (please check there).

What are lake huts and pile dwellings?

Lake huts and stilt houses are one and the same. I call them stilt houses because that’s technically what they are: small, cozy wooden huts (lake huts) built on larch wood PILES in Lake Neusiedl, thatched with reeds and featuring a sloping tent roof, which gives the whole structure a cozy feel. Children are reminded—and not without reason—of Native American wigwams 🙂 though comparatively “luxurious” ones 🙂 Some also use the term chalet, lake chalet, or similar. But in principle, they’re all more or less the same; only the furnishings differ.

What are the features of the pile dwellings?

For a perfectly satisfying vacation, it’s a good idea to mentally prepare yourself for a camping-style atmosphere or a vacation akin to being on a sailboat—meaning somewhat cramped quarters and a bit of improvisation. And then let yourself be surprised by what’s possible in such a small space (Nespresso machine, dishwasher, air conditioning, …). I can’t help but smile whenever I think of a comment from a guest who called me in surprise shortly after check-in, saying, “There’s even a toilet here.” Thankfully, it’s not quite that simple.

This type of vacation is often referred to as “glamping,” a tongue-in-cheek abbreviation for“glamorous camping.”
